Spotify Plays Disappeared? Royalty-Safe Promotion Rules

Streams vanished or royalties held? How Spotify detects artificial plays, what actually is safe, and how to grow without losing your catalog.
Why streams vanish
Spotify filters incentivized and datacenter streams before royalty calculation — sometimes weeks later. A sudden spike from one country at 4 AM with 30-second listens is the textbook pattern they delete.
Worse than deletion: distributors can withhold royalties or pull releases after repeated abuse. Never point aggressive bot streams at your main artist profile.
What is actually safe
Playlist placements on real (even small) playlists, Marquee/Discovery-mode style official tools, and gradual premium-sourced plays spread over days. Growth of 10–20% daily on a warm track rarely raises flags.
Avoid anything promising 100k overnight from a fresh release. If it sounds impossible for the price, the streams will not survive the month.
The durable strategy
Release consistently (every 4–6 weeks), pitch every track via Spotify for Artists, and use paid streams only as starter social proof on singles — then let saves, playlist adds and listener-to-follower conversion do the compounding.
Track the saves-to-streams ratio, not the stream count. That ratio is what the algorithm actually promotes. Browse plays and playlist options with realistic volumes.
