LinkedIn Connections vs Followers: Limits, SSI and What to Grow

Connections cap at 30k, followers don't. Creator mode, SSI score, weekly invite limits and the growth order for B2B.

Two counters, different jobs

Connections (capped at 30,000) see your posts first and enable DMs — they are the outreach asset. Followers are uncapped social proof that compounds on viral posts — they are the authority asset.

Grow connections to 5–10k in your ICP first, then switch the profile to creator mode so overflow becomes followers automatically.

Limits that trigger restrictions

Roughly 100–200 invites a week, fewer for new accounts. Withdraw pending invites older than 3–4 weeks — stale invites drag acceptance rate, and low acceptance triggers limits.

Personalize the first line (shared group, their post, mutual), never pitch in the invite. Pitching in invites is the fastest path to 'I don't know this person' flags.

SSI and content flywheel

Social Selling Index rewards profile completeness, right-network connections, content sharing and relationship building. Post 2–3x weekly mixing insights and client wins.

Comment on 10 prospect posts before pitching any of them. Visibility first, ask second — the feed remembers faces.
